Active Member Incentive Raffle
Each time a member attends a meeting or an event, they earn a raffle ticket. At the end of each semester, we raffle off prizes, including SPSEA t-shirts, Pitt-Greensburg gear, and a lottery/gift card tree.
This incentive program encourages members to attend meetings and therefore increases member participation.

Each fall, the Student Government Association sponsors an Activities Fair at which every club on campus can request a table to share information, recruit members, and welcome back old members.
The UPG SPSEA Chapter gave away mini-post-it-note pads with a reminder about our Kick-Off meeting, sold raffles for a Parking Pass and a PITT Basket to benefit PACE , and handed out SPSEA Activity calendars to anyone and everyone in education.

Trip to DC
There is no better way to bond than to go on a road trip together! This year, 21 UPG SPSEA members drove with their advisors to Washington, DC for a fun-filled, many-miles walked trip. Leaving at 7am on Saturday, we went to the Holocaust Museum, Arlington National Cemetery, toured the monuments at night, saw some Smithsonian Museums, and met up with three ex-SPSEA members living/teaching near Washington, DC.

Our student members LOVE going places together: out to dinner, to class, to study -- and to professional development activities! Our members left really early on a Saturday morning to join with SPSEA members from all over western Pennsylvania to attend the conference at Slippery Rock. Tons of fun and learning was to be had by all!

Fundraiser at Chipotle
Facebook page
Finding a way to share information is a challenge for a group of people of any size. When a group is as large and diverse as the Pitt-Greensburg SPSEA, we needed an easy and popular platform through which to share upcoming events, employment opportunities, photos from our latest events, and general information.
Not only are our current members on the UPG SPSEA Facebook page (a by-permission-only page), but previous members can share opportunities and check in, too!

In order to start the year off right, the UPG SPSEA chapter holds an annual Kick-Off Meeting. At this meeting, officers and chairs are introduced. The ideas of "why become an active member" and "what SPSEA offers" are introduced. Our semester calendar is shared. Mostly, students are introduced to each other over a meal, in this case lunch, which our chapter pays for.

Each year, our SPSEA chapter creates new t-shirts. Using an on-line program, members can design shirts and, after the deadline, each club member can vote for a winning design. Seven designs were submitted this year with Amanda Stein's being the winning shirt. Having these shirts showsoff SPSEA pride and creates a sense of belonging.

We want all of our members to have the chance to attend the SPSEA Statewide conference if they want to attend. However, sometimes the cost can make that difficult. This fundraiser allows members to fund their trip to the conference by selling pepperoni rolls. (The profits from anyone who sells but doesn't attend the conference benefit the chapter as a whole).

In January, when students return to the university, we want to get them excited for the new semester. At this welcome back meeting, SPSEA not only paid for lunch, but we shared important information abut what the semester was going to hold. New calendars were given out, sign up sheets were passed around, and a video about the SPSEA conference was shown.

SPSEA Induction Ceremony
Although buying the membership and getting a membership number is really "all" members need to belong to SPSEA, our chapter has an Induction Ceremony each year. At this ceremony, we allow members to invite people special to them (parents, families, significant others) for a full dinner, speakers, certificates, and celebrations. For the 2018 Induction, we had 25 students newly inducted with four previously inducted members being recognized.

Our SPSEA Chapter is a family. When the seniors leave, we're happy for them -- but really sad for us. Our End of the Year Picnic is one last chance to connect, celebrate the year, and wish our graduating seniors goodbye.
Our Picnic is always during exam week, so our photos and names are from the April 2017 picnic.

We hold chapter meetings twice per month. Usually, the meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month and the third Tuesday in order to accommodate members' schedules. For every meeting, the President provides an agenda and the Secretary takes notes. These notes are then sent via email to all members as a reminder of if they could not be at the meeting.
In order to encourage attendance at meetings, attending members get a raffle ticket for our end-of-the-semester raffles of lottery/gift card tree, SPSEA Swag, and other prizes.

Pi Lambda Theta is the Honor Society for Education at Pitt-Greensburg. To be inducted, one must hold at least a 3.5 overall GPA and have no negative dispositions over the years at Pitt-Greensburg. Our SPSEA chapter, which is where members are drawn from, helps support Pi Lambda Theta through a huge fundraiser: selling Chik-Fil-A calendars. More than $1000 worth of calendars were sold this year.
This induction ceremony occurs the week after the SPSEA conference each year, so we have included the Induction from 2017 in this year's APEX book.
